About your visit

We know that your first visit may feel overwhelming, but you’re not alone. Our compassionate team at TMC Health Cancer Center is here to support you every step of the way.

Call 911 if you are seriously injured or feel you need emergency care. Emergency responders will help you decide the best course of action.

Your first visit may include

  • comprehensive meeting with your doctor to discuss your diagnosis.
  • Diagnostic tests to ensure the most accurate treatment plan.
  • Meeting your new nurse and care team.
  • A meeting with your financial counselor to go over insurance and billing.
For your convenience, we have:
  • Free, convenient parking at all locations.
  • Easy wheelchair access, with wheelchairs available if needed.
If you require any additional accessibility assistance, please let us know!

What to expect

Doctor & patient
The first visit may take around an hour. Please arrive 20 minutes early to fill out some required forms or complete your paperwork via MyChart.
We’ll take the time to explain your diagnosis and treatment options in a way that’s easy to understand.
Some details may require a follow-up visit and while treatment will typically not begin at this appointment, this is a valuable opportunity to learn what’s ahead.
Because cancer care can feel overwhelming, consider bringing a family member or friend for support. We encourage you to ask any questions—our team is here to guide you.

What to bring

Here's what we need:
  • Your insurance card and a photo ID, such as your driver’s license.
  • A complete list of medications, herbs and vitamins you are currently taking. You can also just bring the bottles.
  • Family history of cancer, especially close relatives (parents, siblings, grandparents), including the type of cancer and the age when diagnosed.
  • Any necessary authorizations or referrals from your primary care doctor or other specialists.
  • Contact information for your primary care doctor and other physicians involved in your care.
  • Diagnostic images and reports (X-rays, CT scans, PET scans, etc.).
  • Written pathology reports if you have been diagnosed with cancer already.

Insurance and billing

We will verify your insurance coverage before your visit and file claims on your behalf throughout the process. If we can’t confirm coverage, your appointment may need to be rescheduled, or you may need to pay for the visit. Our financial counselors are available to help answer questions about your insurance coverage. If you have questions regarding a bill, please reach out to the TMC Health Billing Department.
If you have any questions, we’re here to help you every step of the way.

What to ask

When you call us, don't forget to ask:
  • Where is the office located (including floor, room or suite number)?
  • Where should I park?
  • What time should I arrive?
  • What do I need to bring?
  • What is my physician’s full name and title?
  • What is the appointment cancellation policy?
  • Does my physician accept my insurance plan?
  • Will the office bill my insurance? What will I need to pay at my appointment?
  • What medical records should I bring (diagnostic reports, surgical records, notes from my referring physician, etc.)?
If you have other questions, please ask—we are here to help.
